AIGI 27 General-Service Pump Packing
AIGI 27 is a lubricated natural-fibre (ramie) pump packing finished with graphite to help dissipate frictional heat. It is a dependable, economical general-service packing for water-based duties, mild acids and alkalis, and slurries. Plants in mining, wastewater, municipal water, paper and marine service have long relied on this style of packing.
Product Benefits
- Tough, abrasion-resistant ramie: Ramie fibre is naturally tough and abrasion-resistant, which is why it remains a favourite for dirty water and slurry duty where synthetic packings can wear quickly.
- Low start-up friction: The impregnated lubricant keeps start-up friction low.
- Graphite heat removal: The graphite finish carries heat away from the shaft, extending both packing and sleeve life.
- Economical reliability: For the broad middle ground of pumping duties (water, mild chemicals, suspended solids) it delivers reliable sealing at a sensible cost, making it an easy standard for maintenance stores.
Where It's Used
- General-duty pumps: Typical services are general-duty pumps handling water, slurries and mild acids and alkalis.
- Water-heavy industries: The classic industries are mining, wastewater and sewage plants, municipal water plants, paper mills and marine applications.
- Abrasive-laden media: It suits anywhere large volumes of water and abrasive-laden media are moved.
Good to Know
- Moderate temperature and pH: As a natural-fibre packing, AIGI 27 is intended for moderate temperatures and mid-range pH; strongly acidic, strongly alkaline or hot services call for a PTFE- or graphite-based packing instead.
- Higher valve rating: Within its envelope it carries a higher pressure rating in valve duty than in pump duty.
- Black-and-white look: The packing has a distinctive black-and-white appearance from the graphite over the natural fibre.
- Gentle run-in helps: It handles respectable shaft speeds, and like all lubricated packings it benefits from a gentle run-in so the lubricant distributes before the gland is fully loaded.
