AIGI 5505Z Large-Runout Arrowhook Split Rotary Seal
The AIGI 5505Z is a patented Arrowhook split rotary seal developed for very large rotating equipment whose shafts run with significant runout. Because the seal is supplied split, it wraps around the shaft in place, so a worn seal can be replaced quickly without dismantling the machine.
Product Benefits
- Built for shaft runout: Very large machines rarely run perfectly true, and ordinary rotary seals wear out quickly once the shaft starts moving off-centre. The 5505Z is designed around that reality.
- Flexible Arrowhook profile: The flexible Arrowhook profile keeps following the shaft even under unusually large runout, holding a reliable seal where a conventional design would soon fail.
- Split for in-place fitting: Instead of stripping bearings and couplings to slide a new seal down the shaft, maintenance crews fit the 5505Z in situ, which cuts seal-change downtime dramatically.
- Gentle on the shaft: The low-friction design is easy on the shaft surface.
Where It's Used
- Large-diameter equipment: The 5505Z targets large-diameter rotating equipment where a degree of shaft runout is simply unavoidable.
- Sized for big machines: It is sized for genuinely big shafts and very large housing diameters.
- Avoids costly teardowns: These are exactly the machines that are most expensive and disruptive to take apart for a routine seal change.
Good to Know
- Choice of elastomers: The seal is offered in a choice of elastomers: polyurethane as the standard, with NBR and FKM extending the temperature and shaft-speed capability progressively.
- Match material to duty: Select the material against your medium, operating temperature and surface speed.
- Check measured runout: As with any runout-tolerant seal, the key selection step is comparing the actual measured runout of the shaft with the seal's tolerance.
- Fast, low-maintenance payoff: When that is confirmed, the 5505Z rewards you with fast installation and far less maintenance time than a conventional arrangement.
