T5B Gasketed Plate Heat Exchanger

The Alfa Laval T5 is a compact gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchanger built from corrugated metal plates, each sealed by a rubber gasket, compressed between a fixed frame plate and a movable pressure plate. The size, material and number of plates are matched to the duty, making it a flexible choice for industrial, hygienic and utility services.

Product Benefits

  • Tailored, not nearest size: The T5's bolted plate-pack construction gives you a heat exchanger tailored to the job rather than the nearest standard size.
  • Three variables to set: Plate count sets the area, plate material handles the media, and the gasket compound seals against the fluid and temperature.
  • Reconfigurable frame: If requirements change, the same frame is simply reconfigured.
  • Simple maintenance: Opening the unit for inspection, mechanical cleaning or gasket renewal only requires slackening the tightening bolts, which keeps maintenance simple and downtime short over the exchanger's life.

Where It's Used

  • Compact by design: As a compact model, the T5 fits general heating and cooling duties.
  • Industrial, hygienic and utility: It is at home in industrial, hygienic and utility installations alike.
  • Replaces bulkier equipment: These are the everyday services where a small, easily serviced plate exchanger takes the place of bulkier tubular equipment.

Good to Know

  • Standard and alloyed plates: The great majority of units are delivered with plates in the two most common stainless steel grades, but highly alloyed stainless steels, titanium, nickel and nickel-based alloys are available for corrosive media.
  • Gasket options: Gaskets are typically nitrile or EPDM, with FKM and PTFE for harsher conditions.
  • Frame materials: The frame and pressure plates are normally carbon steel, with other frame components in aluminium, chromium steel and various stainless steels.
  • Protective epoxy coat: The frame is protected by a water-based two-component epoxy coat pigmented with zinc phosphate, applied per the relevant paint standard.
  • Sustainability documentation: Alfa Laval manufactures under ISO 14001 environmental management, declares the climate profile per ISO 14021, and screens components against EU legislation, the REACH Candidate List and the Montreal Protocol, with SCIP reporting where applicable. That is useful documentation if your projects carry sustainability requirements.
