ITT Engineered Valves

Fabri-Valve S16-ULV Urethane-Lined Knife Gate Valve

The Fabri-Valve S16-ULV is a urethane-lined knife gate valve for large-diameter abrasive and corrosive slurry lines, developed particularly for gypsum and limestone slurry in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems. ITT's perimeter sealing technology gives it no-discharge, bi-directional, drip-tight shutoff at sizes where reliable sealing is hardest to achieve.

Product Benefits

  • Protects a costly body: Large slurry valves are expensive to buy and even more expensive to replace, so protecting the body matters.
  • Chemically bonded liner: The S16-ULV's urethane liner is chemically bonded to the body for excellent support, taking the abrasion and corrosion so the valve structure does not.
  • Drip-tight, no discharge: Perimeter sealing closes the gate path completely, delivering bi-directional, drip-tight shutoff with no discharge of process media. That is a meaningful advantage over conventional knife gates, which flush slurry out of the chest on each stroke.
  • Self-clearing bore: A taper built into the liner's internal diameter promotes automatic clean-out and flushing, helping the bore keep itself clear.

Where It's Used

  • FGD scrubber circuits: The valve was designed specifically for gypsum and limestone slurry in FGD scrubber circuits at power plants.
  • Other large-bore slurries: It also suits other large-bore abrasive and corrosive slurry services with similar demands.
  • Low velocity, low wear: Its unrestricted, straight-through full-port design keeps velocity and wear down in high-volume lines.
  • Hydraulic as standard: A heavy-duty hydraulic cylinder is the standard actuator, with electric, bevel gear, and handwheel operation available where hydraulics are not practical.

Good to Know

  • Large-diameter range: The S16-ULV covers a range of large diameters, with the allowable working pressure stepping down at the biggest sizes, which is normal practice for valves of this scale.
  • No distribution rings: Unlike some lined large-bore valves, it does not require load distribution rings between the valve and mating flanges, which simplifies installation.
  • Liner sets the temperature: As with any elastomer-lined valve, service temperature is limited by the liner, so confirm your line's operating temperature when specifying.
  • Selection support: Fluindo can advise on matching the valve to FGD and other slurry circuit conditions.
