The Goulds Model 3409 is a medium-capacity, single-stage, double-suction pump with a horizontally split casing and dual-volute design. It is a workhorse for clean-water and light process services, built around a hydraulically balanced impeller for long, quiet bearing life.

- Hydraulic axial balance: The double-suction impeller draws liquid from both sides, cancelling most axial thrust hydraulically so the thrust bearing runs lightly loaded and lasts.
