CW / CWX Pumps for Abrasive Slurries

The Goulds CW and CWX are single-stage, enclosed-impeller, back pull-out horizontal process pumps built to move liquids with abrasive solids in suspension efficiently. Wear parts in HC600 chrome iron give long life, and the CWX version adds a patented Shearpeller for large stringy solids and entrained air.

Product Benefits

  • Hardened process design: The CW takes a process-pump layout and hardens it for slurry: a rugged HC600 casing with extra-thick metal sections, plus an enclosed impeller that contributes to long life on abrasive duty.
  • Renewable wear plates: Front and rear wear plates are renewable, so eroded surfaces are replaced instead of scrapping the casing.
  • Protected power end: A heavy-duty steel shaft with minimum overhang reduces deflection, protecting seals and bearings, and taconite-style bearing protection with a grease barrier keeps grit out of the power end.
  • Simple spares: The whole line shares only a few power ends, which simplifies spares.

Where It's Used

  • Clay and kaolin: In pulp and paper plants, typical services include clay slip and kaolin slurry.
  • Ash handling: The pumps are also applied in ash handling systems.
  • CWX for fibre: Where the stream also carries stringy or fibrous solids, or entrained air, the Model CWX with its patented Shearpeller is the variant to specify.

Good to Know

  • Back pull-out access: The back pull-out arrangement lets the rotating element come out without disturbing the piping, and the hook-type XH-800 shaft sleeve protects the shaft in the wetted zone.
  • Sealing options: Packing is the standard sealing method, with a Dynamic Seal option that eliminates packing (and with it, seal water) on suitable services.
  • CW or CWX: Treat the CW as the base pump for clean-of-fibre abrasive slurries and the CWX as the answer when solids are stringy or the liquid carries air.
  • Same wear philosophy: Both share the same hardened wear philosophy, so the choice is about what the stream contains rather than how hard it wears.
