ITT Goulds Pumps
Trash Hog
The Goulds Trash Hog is a self-priming, solids-handling centrifugal pump built for tough waste services. A large integral priming chamber lets it prime and re-prime reliably on suction-lift duties, while a non-clog open impeller passes sizeable spherical solids without blocking.
Product Benefits
- True self-priming: Self-priming removes a whole category of installation problems: the pump can sit above the liquid it draws, with no foot valve or external priming system to maintain.
- Reliable re-priming: The generously sized priming chamber means it recovers on its own after the suction runs dry, which matters on intermittent sump and runoff duties.
- Simple maintenance: The back pull-out design gives access to the rotating element without disturbing piping, and the renewable wearplate restores clearances economically.
- External impeller adjustment: Adjusting the impeller from outside keeps performance up as parts wear.
Where It's Used
- Dirty collection points: In pulp and paper mills, the Trash Hog serves duties such as black liquor sumps, white water and mill scale runoff.
- Debris-laden liquids: These are places where debris-laden liquid collects and a clog-prone pump would mean constant attention.
- Unattended services: Its solids-passing impeller and reliable repriming suit exactly these unattended, dirty services.
Good to Know
- Non-clog impeller: The heavy vaned open impeller comes in two- or three-vane non-clog forms and is trimmable to match the duty point.
- Built-in check valve: The casing includes a replaceable elastomeric check valve, and a silicon carbide mechanical seal is standard, with carbon/ceramic faces optional.
- Material range: Choices run from cast iron for general waste to 316 stainless steel, CD4MCu, Alloy 20 and HC600 hard iron for corrosive or abrasive streams.
- Selection checks: When selecting, confirm the available suction lift and keep the strainer or sump screen sized to the solids the impeller can pass.
