ITT Goulds Pumps
VHS Vertical Cantilever Pumps
The VHS from ITT Goulds Pumps is a vertical cantilever pump with a fully recessed impeller, made for sump and pit service on liquids loaded with large or fibrous solids. Its defining feature is what it leaves out: there are no submerged bearings, no packing and no mechanical seals below the liquid line.
Product Benefits
- No submerged bearings or seals: Submerged bearings and seals are the classic failure points of vertical sump pumps in dirty service. The cantilever shaft of the VHS eliminates them entirely, so there is simply less in the pit to wear out or fail.
- Passes large solids: The fully recessed impeller passes solids as large as the pump suction itself, making blockages rare even with stringy, fibrous material.
- External impeller adjustment: Efficiency can be restored over time through external impeller adjustment, without dismantling the pump.
- Smooth, low-vibration running: A heavy-duty shaft running with a comfortable margin below its first critical speed keeps operation smooth and vibration low.
Where It's Used
- Pulp and paper mills: The VHS earns its keep on the messiest liquids in the plant.
- Typical liquids: Duties include waste paper stock, black liquor, mill scale, clay slurry, ash slurry and sludge.
- Beyond sealed pumps: These are sump and pit duties where solids size and abrasiveness rule out conventional sealed pumps.
Good to Know
- Abrasion-resistant materials: Standard wetted parts are hardened high-chrome iron (HC600), with 316 stainless steel optional where corrosion dominates.
- Shaft options: Shafts are offered in alloy steel or stainless.
- Positive impeller drive: The impeller is keyed to the shaft for a positive drive.
- Check pit depth: Because the cantilever design suits pits of limited depth, check your pit dimensions against the available settings when selecting the pump.
